Debian / Ubuntu or other Linux systems
======================================

See debian/control file for the precise version numbers.

Manual Installation
-------------------

Install the runtime dependencies:

 * libavahi-compat-libdnssd1
 * python3-application
 * python3-eventlib
 * python3-googleapi
 * python3-google-auth-oauthlib
 * python3-lxml
 * python3-lxml-html-clean (lxml 5.0 and later; older lxml includes it)
 * python3-pgpy
 * python3-pyqt6
 * python3-pyqt6.qtmultimedia
 * python3-pyqt6.qtsvg
 * qt6-svg-plugins (the SVG image plugin; up to Qt 6.6, as in Debian 12/bookworm, it is part of libqt6svg6.
   Without it Qt cannot read the SVG icons: an installed libqt6svg6 6.7 or later is not enough)
 * python3-pyqt6.qtwebchannel
 * python3-pyqt6.qtwebengine
 * pyqt6-dev-tools
 * python3-gi
 * gir1.2-gstreamer-1.0
 * gstreamer1.0-plugins-base
 * gstreamer1.0-plugins-good
 * gstreamer1.0-libav
 * python3-otr
 * python3-requests
 * python3-sipsimple
 * python3-sqlobject
 * python3-twisted
 * python3-zope.interface

Optional:

 * gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly
 * python3-pyqt6.qtpdf (PDF previews in messages)
 * python3-pyqt6.qtpositioning, libqt6positioning6-plugins, geoclue-2.0 (location sharing)
 * fonts-noto-color-emoji

Download and install python3-sipsimple and its dependencies:

https://github.com/AGProjects/python3-sipsimple/blob/master/docs/Install.linux

After installing the above dependencies, install Blink system wide using:

sudo python3 setup.py install

Creating Debian Packages
------------------------

Install the building dependencies:

  * debhelper
  * dh-python
  * python3-setuptools
  * python3-all
  * devscripts
  * equivs (for mk-build-deps, used by makedeb.sh)

Create a clean distribution file:

python3 setup.py sdist

Go to the ./dist directory and untar the file created at the step above.

Go to the newly created directory and type:

debuild

The .deb and related files are built in the upper directory.

Microsoft Windows
=================

Blink for Windows is built from this repository with MSYS2 (UCRT64),
PyInstaller and Inno Setup: see windows/README.md.

Older Linux systems without Qt6
===============================

To run Blink on older Linux systems without Qt6, use the repository named
blink-qt5:
